Irish Bobsled Winter Olympic Entrants

Published by under Fifth and Sixth Class

Last week, 4th, 5th and 6th class made bobsleds in honour of the Winter Olympics beginning on Friday February 7th. The boys and girls made the bobsleds from recyclable materials that they brought to school themselves. In pairs, we designed and built the bobsleds. We considered scientific matters such as velocity and friction when designing our bobsleds. Then we tested them in a pipe to see which was the fastest and the most aero dynamic. The finals will be held this Friday.

Houston, we have a problem!

Published by under Fifth and Sixth Class

5th and 6th completed a series of art lessons over a five week period to construct rockets, spaceships and stations. For the first two weeks we were constructing our spaceships out of recyclable materials, such as cardboard, toilet roll tubes and bottles.

During weeks three and four, we paper mached our newly constructed spaceships with recycled newspaper. We used glue and wallpaper paste to stick the newspaper to our spaceships.

When we reached the piont were we could paint our spaceships, it was week five. We used a variety of different colours such as blue, silver, black, green, red and yellow. When we were finished, the spaceships looked great! It was really good fun! We set up an exhibition on the Friday of our Midterm break to show our  “spacetastic” creations to 1st-4th class.

The New 5th and 6th Class

Published by under Fifth and Sixth Class

When we started back to school last week, we were all quite excited to see our friends after the Summer Holidays. It was hard to get used to doing work again. However, once we got back into the routine of school we were enthusiastic to get started with our new classwork. We have a new teacher this year and it will be a busy year with football, 6th class confirmation, the Green Flag and most importantly our schoolwork.

We intend to post regularly to our school website to keep the rest of our school and our community updated on activities and events. Watch this space….
