We are now in Phase 2 of our Food Dudes Programme.

Phase 1 – the Tasting Phase is where  the children have tasted various fruits and vegetables for sixteen days.

Phase 2- This is where the children bring in a piece of fruit & a piece of veg each day in their food dudes lunchboxes which they received during phase 1.

Some of the fruits and veg we have tasted are mangetout, peppers, carrots, cucumber, apples, oranges, grapes and bananas!

We really enjoyed the tasting phase and Ms. Shalvey recorded what we tasted on our class record chart.

Now in phase 2 we have to remember to bring in our fruit and veg each day in order to receive our Food Dudes Certificate at the end of the programme.

We have to beat General Junk!!

Children need lots of energy and nutrients from food, particularly when they’re growing. Try to encourage them to eat lots of fruit and veg (you should aim for at least 5 portions a day) to help ensure they have the required amount of vitamins and minerals. Variety is one of the keys to a healthy balanced diet and this applies just as much to the fruit and veg you eat. The more types of fruit and veg included the better, because different fruit/veg contain different nutrients. Including a range of colours, flavours and textures can help make food more interesting and enjoyable.
